Road Trip 2017 - Day 7

Day 7 - Sat 15th July

More back roads through Pennsylvania today.  We headed east though Dallastown and Red Lion until we hit Clarke Lake on the Susquehanna river.

Here we actually got to drive along the lake for a while - it was really quite beautiful

We crossed the river at Wrighstville / Columbia

cool fire escape in Columbia
The continued onto Lancaster and into Amish Dutch country.  We headed out to Bird-in-Hand to the big farmers market where we shopped for some lunchable.  We got some soft pretzels after watching the girl hand twist them, some pickles, cheese, cold meats and browsed some amish quilt stalls.  There was a big hulla balloo going on across the road so we wandered across to check it out.  It turned out to be a big Amish auction.  The most fascinating to us was the quilts being auctioned - the couple we watched went for over $4000.

Couldn't afford to join in the auction so we headed back to the car to find aplace for lunch - I managed to spy a picnic table just around the corner next to a mini golf course.  Was a great place for a great picnic lunch.

We then spent the afternoon  driving around the local area, enjoying seeing all the horse and buggies.

And the large wheeled scooters!

And just generally enjoying the countryside.

more corn - it seems like tha'ts the only thing anyone in this country grows.

We visited a few more quilt shops for some more inspiration

the back to the motel - the Country Inn Lancaster for a swim, then dinner at a local all you can eat Buffet.

Josh wanted to try the crawfish, but it was a bit spicy!
