Australia 2017 - Day 10

Wombeyan Caves to Burrill Lake

This morning we went on a kangaroo hunt again.

We then got back on the road and headed for Goulburn.  We drove straight through to Goulburn Railway museum.

This was a great museum - even though the trains were all pretty run down, we were able to climb all over them and through them - even under them.

Lunch was at McDonalds at Goulburn  then we headed for Braidwood where we stopped for afternoon tea.

Then on to Batemans Bay and up to Burrill lake to our holiday house there.

Australia 2017 - Day 11 and 12

Thursday morning Lexie, Josh, Grandma and I headed down to Burrill Lake to swim in the entrance channel.  The tide was high and we had to swim over to the sandbar so no photos from this morning.

In the afternoon it got a bit cloudy, but we decided to head to the beach at Mollymook anyway.  The flags were set up in a very secluded part of the beach but the waves weren't big and there was a lot of seaweed in the water just there so it wasn't a perfect beach day, but we had fun anyway.

some chips on the beach after our surf - a must have!

When we got home from the beach we found that someone had lit a fire just near our house - as we watches about 4 fire engines and 4 police cars showed up - gave us some entertainment for the afternoon.

We had planned to do a BBQ over and open fire for dinner, but after all that we figured we'd have the firies straight back if we lit it up so had to cook our snags on the electric BBQ instead.

Dinner out the front of our beach houe

After dinner we walked down to the lake to watch the sunset - lot of black swans and Pelicans out on the lake - beautiful.

Friday morning we went shopping in Ulladulla then did was walk around the headland.  There were a bunch of carvings done around this walk commemorating the native people of the region.

This frog was one of the kids favourites
My best friend Kate arrived from Canberra in the afternoon and we all headed back down to Mollymook beach for another swim.  Weather wasn't great but we wanted to swim anyway.

The waves were pretty small today but at least there was less seaweed around where the flags were - we tried to walk around to the rockpools but the stench of the seaweed washed up from yesterday was horrible.

Dinner we came back to Mollymook to the gold club and had dinner overlooking the beach.  Unfortunately it rained the whole time, but it was still a nice view anyway.

Later that evening Melanie, Attilla, Nice, Ernie and Eddie arrived to spend the weekend so we had a full house.

All the cousins getting ready for bed.

Australia 2017 - Day 13

Melanie, Attilla, Nick Ernie and Eddie arrived late last night so we had a full house this morning.

The weather wasn't quite up to going to the beach so this morning we chose to go for a bit of a walk.  We started at the lighthouse at Ulladulla.

Good Fossils

And yes all the boys came back with wet feet.

Whilst we were walking Dad went into Burrill and bought a couple of bags of quick set concrete.  Last time all the cousins were at Burril we poured a slab of concrete and made handprints of the kids.

We wanted to do it again now that they were older.  So we got the kids busy, first digging out the location,

then mixing the concrete

Obviously I'm a kid too cause I  had to have my turn
Grandpa shovelled it all into our prepared area

Mel did her part levelling out the concrete

Then we had to wait for it to set enough to put the hand prints in.

In the meantime we took a walk over to the beach at Burrill.

coming down the sand dune onto the beach

We had originally planned to just play of the beach and maybe do a little paddling (Burrill beach is not patrolled so no swimming allowed)  But once we got there Josh especially really wanted to be able to go into the water.  As a compromise we decided to walk down the beach to the lakes entrance and let the kids swim in the lake instead.

A bit cool for a walk on the beach

but that wasn't stopping the kids

The tide was pretty low, but that didn't stop the kids from having fun in the water.  It just made it great for doing cannonballs directly into the channel.

We walked back around the lake to the caravan park and Grandpa drove down and met us and picked up the kids and drove them home.

Back at the house it was time to do the hand prints.

Everyone wrote in their names and we now have the trip commemorated in concrete once again.

Unfortunately the weather closed in again at dinner time and we ended up cooking our BBQ and eating our dinner in the rain.
