Day 14 - July 11 Around Mooloolaba
Woke up to a stunning view this morning - what a great place to have breakfast!
Once everyone was awake and fed we headed into Mooloolaba to visit Mel. The Stopic's have rented an apartment right down at the beach at Mooloolaba and Mel, Nick and Ernie drove up from Sydney in 1 day yesterday arriving late last night. Atti and Eddie will join us later in the week.
The first thing on the agenda for today was a walk along Mooloolaba beach - Now this is a beach, squeaky white sand, good waves and few people - and even better, they have flags set up just a short walk down from Mel's place. Josh really wanted to go for a swim but I convinced him to wait until a bit later, otherwise he'd have to walk down the beach wet and cold.
We walked right down the beach.

To the breakwater at the entrance to the river
Around the park at the point along the river.
Back at Mel's place we got onto the boardwalk and headed into the Wharf at Mooloolaba. We checked out some whale watching tours and had smoothies for morning tea. Nick caught up with us and we continued the walk into town, checking out the main beach then picked up some lunch....poke bowls for Bill and the Kids and I, Vietnamese for everyone else. We took our food back to Mel's place for lunch.
After lunch, Josh and I decided to brave the cold water (20degC) and go for a swim. While the initial shock was cold, the water was actually quite nice once you got in. The waves were dumping....as Josh soon found out with a bloody nose, but they weren't too bad and we were able to catch a few waves. Josh did great considering how little experience he has had.
We spent the afternoon planning the fun for the rest of the week, then it was time for dinner- I had put in my request for bugs - Moreton bay bugs that is - so we headed down to the fish market just nears Mel's place and pick up 8 bugs (1 each) plus 2kg of prawns and took them back to Uncle Bills place. Josh learnt how to peel prawns efficiently and we all sat down to a magnificent seafood feast.
Day 15 - July 12 Around Mooloolaba
Today was a bit of a down day - we didn't want to do too much without Atti and Eddie so we used the day to catch up with one of Grandpa and Uncle Bills cousins - Lynne. While Nick and Ernie spent the day exploring the Brisbane and Sunshine Coast train system.
We started the day with a walk from Mel's to the Coles on the other side of Mooloolaba to pick up some stuff for lunch. This took longer than we had expected so as soon as we returned Josh and I headed back to the beach for another swim.
Once back at the apartment, Lynne and David had arrived so after a quick change we had a great lunch out on the Balcony.
Later in the afternoon, we took a walk down to the nearby secondhand book store - we were hoping for some Matthew Rilely books as they are very hard to get a hold of in the US and Josh has gotten really into them. We lucked out and found a whole bunch so Josh bought 4 of them and Lexie and I each got a book as well.
Back at the apartment we picked up Grandpa and headed back to the beach again. We had convinced Grandpa to come into the surf, but unfortunately the water seemed to have cooled down so he chickened out. Turns out the waves were actually stronger than before too so it ended up being another round of - how many times can we be dumped - so we didn't stay in too long. Instead we jumped into the pool back at Mel's apartment - It felt so warm after the ocean.
