Day 6 - July 3rd Loftus - Canberra
We were up and on the road by 9am. We drove straight back down the freeway to Picton road, then out to the Hume Motorway. We stopped for the first time at Sutton Forest where we bought a packet of hot chips and oh my, they were some of the best hot chips I've had for ages, piping hot, crisp, chicken salt....so good! I took over the driving and drove down to Goulburn where we stopped at the Big Merino.
This stop was a Josh request. When he was a baby, Margo gave him a warmie sheep from the Big Merino - named Baa Baa - and he has been the beloved ever since. Josh wanted to go and see where he came from again....and the best thing was his brothers were still there....a bit of difference - Can you tell which one is Josh's?
We walked up inside the sheep to see the view from the eye, but it was just a view of the Bunnings across the road so not very exciting.
After browsing the gift shop - and purchasing a few new animal friends (Welcome to the family Eno the big Merino and Wally Wombat)
We decided to spend the afternoon checking out Parliament house.
The best thing in the whole place though was the huge Lego set of the Parliament House, with so much great detail down to the computers in the senate chamber.
We headed to the bakery across the road for sausage rolls and party pies for Lunch, then got back on the road. We took the back streets south through Lake Bathurst, Tarago and Bungendore before approaching Canberra via Queanbeyan. We drove straight to Kate's place in Kingston to catch up with her and after checking out her apartment, we headed to our hotel to check in. We got a nice place just a couple of blocks from Kate's - Oxley Serviced Apartment - a 2 bedroom apartment with full lounge room and Kitchen. A very nice place.
We decided to spend the afternoon checking out Parliament house.
We got out on the the roof, but they don't let you onto the lawn anymore...
We drove out to Grandpa's Motel so he could check-in, then back to Kingston where we picked up a Pizza and wine for dinner, eaten back at our apartment.
