Day 6 - Chicago Navy Pier and Trolley Tour

This morning we walked down to Navy Pier.  What a waste of time.

We checked out the Crystal Gardens which were pretty cool.

and rode the ferris wheel.

But the rest of the place was useless.  What was there wasn't open and the rest was under construction.  a waste of good energy to get down there.  Since we didn't want to have to walk home again we found one of the hop on hop off trolley tour buses and jumped on that and headed up to Water Tower Place for lunch.

I think that the water tower is probably my favourite building in Chicago - just so cool - and very cute tucked in amongst all the huge skyscrapers.

For lunch we had decided to go and check out Giordano's.  Lexie teacher at school is Mrs Giordano and we'd been given instructions that we had to check it out.

It actually wasn't bad - but as you can imagine very filling.  I managed one and a half slices then had to admit defeat.

We jumped back on the trolley to finish the loop around the city.

Back down the Magnificent Mile.

And back out to the museum campus and the planetarium for more great views back over the city.

Hopped off the trolley at the Sheraton and walked back to the hotel.

For dinner we organised to meet up with one of Andy's work mates Boldezar at a Chicago Hot Dog place called Portillos.  Wasn't quite what I expected - more a food court than a restaurant but had a great meal of hot dogs and milkshakes.
