Australia 2024 - Day 1

After 5 long years, Covid lockdowns, and a flying trip back due to the death of my Mum, we finally had a chance to head back to Australia for a family holiday (minus Dad - he had to stay at home and look after the hedgehog!).

Day 1 - June 26 2024 Boston to Aneheim

So on 26 June 2024 we got up a 3 am and headed for the Airport.  We were booked on the 9am flight to LAX.  Dad drove us to the airport where we said goodbye and then Lexie, Josh and I entered the airport.  Turns out the flight had been delayed for an hour so we had quite a wait at the gate.

We finally got on the plane - had a drink, then a nap, then breakfast was served before another nap.  We arrived at LAX on time (but 1 hour later than originally planned) but then had to wait on the runway until a gate opened up - 1/2 hour later....

Thankfully we  were in no hurry today - can't get into our motel till 2 pm anyway, so a bit of a delay was OK.  We had ordered a car service to pick us up (Executive Car Hire LAX) and the pick up guy was great.  A text as soon as we landed, then kept in touch during our delays.  We picked up our bags then let him know which column we were waiting at and he drove around and picked us up.  A big, black, dark window SUV with tonnes of room - Josh and I had a cooler between us with drinks we could have.  Was a very nice drive down to Anaheim.  Arrived around midday and dropped our luggage at the motel then took a walk to find some lunch - unfortunately there was not a lot around, just fast food, KFC, Taco Bell, McDonalds, Subway.  Since we were trying to take as much time as possible we decided to go to El Loco Pollo, was good Mexican food, and lots of it.

To kill time we then headed across the road to Walmart to pick up some pop tarts and bananas for breakfast.  Having exhausted things to do in our area we headed back to the motel to sit and wait till check in time.

Thankfully the owner took pity on us and let us into  the room early.  Its a great room, or in fact two. One big room with two queen beds and a table and fridge and microwave, then a second bedroom with another queen bed.

The motel also had a small pool so we changed into our cossies and headed down for a swim.

On the way back to our room I realised that the Motel does in fact have a view of Disneyland....you can jsut see the tip of the Matterhorn.

Not a lot of choice for dinner - it was either fast food, or walk to the nearby Four points hotel and eat in their restaurant - we decided to just grab KFC and eat in the room.

I managed to stay awake until 9pm when the fireworks were let off in Disney and went out and watched the display.  Probably better if you are in the park but it was still fun.

Then it was straight to bed, ready for an early morning tomorrow.
