I wanted to take a drive through Charlottetown this morning before we headed off the island, but I ended up being a bit disappointed by it. It's really grown in the last 14 years and not in a good way. I couldn't recognise it at all.
So we headed for the south coast and the Confederation bridge. We took one detour into Victoria by the sea which was a beautiful little place and almost made up for Chalottetown.
Drove back past Shediac and Moncton and finally crossed the river headed towards Hopewell Rocks.
In Riverview just on the other side of the river from Moncton we ran across the dairy queen that we stopped at 14 years ago and decided for nostalgia's sake to have lunch there. At Riverview we had our first glimpse of what the bay of Fundy can do - the tide was out and the river was bare - it really is a strange sight.

We arrived at Hopewell Rocks at about 1:30 pm low tide had been at 9:40 am and high tide was coming up at 4 pm so it was actually a great time to arrive. We go to the flowerpot rocks lookout just as they were starting to close off parts of the beach. We ducked down and stood on the beach at the base of the rocks and watched the tide come in around us.
Lexie was not happy about being down on the beach and quickly retreated to the stairwell.
Josh on the other hand took his shoes and socks off and waded in the water.
After 10 mins the water had risen at least 2 feet up the beach and after 3/4 hour the entire beach was underwater.
We watched a kayak tour come in a paddle through the archway.
And watched the water rise up the stairwell.
It was really amazing.
We then headed for our overnight stop in Alma.
Along the way we found a winery. They were mainly doing blueberry and rhubarb wines and were really yummy. They also had an amazing location.
By the time we reached Alma the tide was in and we had some great views of the docks.
Dinner was take out fish and chips back at the Bayview Motel.
