My Birthday - had an easy morning, cooked bacon for breakfast before heading out. First stop photos of our hotel and view. Our apartment was in the grey and white building on the left.

Packing up the car.
Our plan for this morning - Bjarnarhofn. The museum built around Harkal otherwise known as fermented shark. The museum was pretty cute, unfortunately the curator didn't speak great English but we were able to figure out most of what he was trying to say and there were plenty of signs around in English explaining the process of rotting, then drying the shark to make it eatable.
Then the fun, we got to try a piece of the shark. After the beat up I was pleasantly surprised, it really wasn't as bad as I had heard. It just tasted really....fishy.... Both kids tried a piece which I was so impressed by.

We then headed outside where the kids got to help feed the duck and chickens and we got to see the duck eggs - talk about duck egg blue. Then we got to see the drying house with pieces of shark meat hanging up. A bit on the ponky side but again not as bad as I had expected.
We headed onto the biggest town on the Snaefellsness peninsular Stykksholmur. A very cute town.
We stopped here and found yet another pool - another great slide. Spent a couple of hours there, then did a quick shop at the Bonus supermarket across the road and finally bought a hot dog for lunch and ate it in the car. Yep Icelandic Hot dogs are good, really good.
Then we started the long drive across to the northern part of the island to our home for the next two nights - Hvammstangi where we were booked into the cutest little cabins around.
I assume that's a huge church in Stykksholmur out on the outskirts?
ReplyDeleteYep - they have a thing for cool churches in Iceland!
