Day 10 - Mon 21 April

Hvammstangi - Reykjavik

Had an absolutely amazing drive this morning through the mountains.  It was just white.  White hills in all directions, white road in front of us.

Our first stop this morning was Bifrost.

We first saw this sign a couple of days ago and had no idea what it was all about - a magical link to Asgard?  Nope turned out to be a University - set into the middle of a lava field it was quite strange really.

We took a detour out to Reykholt as it was supposed to be a cute little town.  All we found was a church and hotel - Hmm not sure that was worth it, what was worth the drive was  Deildartunguhver just around the corner.  The largest hot spring in Europe - pumps out 1820liter of water a second.

I have never seen a waterfall that's boiling before it was really quite cool (and a bit smelly too according to Josh's expression).

We headed back to Hvalfjordur and this time took the road around the fjord instead of going under it.

Picnic lunch back in Reykjavik at a very cute little place called Alafoss.

Then back to our favourite pool for another swim.

Stayed at the Grettisborg Apartments this time.  A nice little place but no parking so had to park on the road.  Walked down to the main road to find somewhere for dinner and found a little place called Meze - greek food I had the mussels and Andy the lamb kebabs.  Oh so yum, but I lost most of my mussels to Lexie - Josh ordered the cheese plate so he could have the Halloumi.

  1. Those hot springs look wow. Can't believe they pipe the water that far and it still stays hot!
